Guiding Small Groups in Homer, Alaska since 1996
Guests traveling with Three Moose Kayak Adventures have the confidence of knowing they are in the care of one of Alaska’s original backcountry tour operators, and the first in the state to offer glacier-lake kayaking! Having guided here for 2 decades, we have discovered and maintained a simple business principle: Alaska’s grandeur is best experienced in small groups, with professional guides, off the beaten path. Our trips are a unique opportunity for anyone wanting to avoid traditional large-group tours, with an average group size is 6-8 guests. Our guides are courteous, informative, entertaining, and skills-tested according to the American Canoe and Kayak Association standards.
Jordan has been leading small group excursions in Alaska for over two decades. Originally from Wisconsin, he was drawn to Alaska to explore and study the diversity of the greatest wilderness on Earth. This began a quest to offer visitors to Alaska a truly unique guided experience. In 1994, he pioneered a new type of trip: Hike-in Glacier Lake Kayaking. The first in the state to offer a hike-in kayaking trip, he has had the privilege of leading thousands of travelers into the Grewingk Valley, and looks forward to sharing some of his secret spots with you! His other personal interests include backcountry skiing, snowshoeing, and nature photography. Jordan holds a degree in Wildlife Biology and has been featured in the Chicago Tribune and comes recommended by the New York Times. He and His wife Jennie co-manage Hideaway Cove Wilderness Lodge inside Kachemak Bay State Park.
One word sums up Bobby Oliver: Adventure. His friendly approach and always-smiling attitude gives guests not only a safe adventure, but a fun one! With his outdoor-education degree, he enjoys sharing a wealth of knowledge and practical experiences with guests. He especially enjoys sharing his knowledge of back-country survival techniques and stories. Bobby is an avid kayaker, rock climber, spelunker, mountain biker, skier, hiker and free diver! What doesn’t this guy do? Knit! Bobby is trained as a wilderness first responder (WFR) and holds current first aid and CPR certifications.
Jenson Hess was born and raised in Alaska; Kachemak Bay State Park was literally his backyard! He has hiked and kayaked here his entire life and enjoys taking guests into the Grewingk Glacier Valley. Guest appreciate his local knowledge of Alaska and patience on the trail for wildflowers and photo stops. They enjoy hearing his stories of growing up in Alaska, especially the bear and moose encounters he has had over the years. In the off-season, Jenson enjoys biking, hiking, ping pong and reading! He is enrolled in college, studying for a career in dentistry.
Jennie Hess fell in love with Alaska when she vacationed here in 1993. While most tourists buy postcards and t-shirts on vacation, Jennie bought a 5-acre homestead for a souvenir! Locals thought she was crazy to open a bed and breakfast “out in the wilderness”, but 21 years later, her vision has shown that travelers to Alaska want more than just a roadside hotel, or in-town B&B. Giving her guests a wilderness experience “right out your front door” has been a dream fulfilled for Jennie. As lodge owner and part-time trail guide, she enjoys sharing her fun stories and Alaska experiences.
